I will also blog about other unimportant things across a variety of subjects, just look at some old posts to see what I mean, I hope you enjoy your stay, thanks for visiting!Kevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.comBlogger54125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-13091070135789400152011-09-21T07:39:00.002+01:002011-09-21T07:39:48.474+01:00The console gamer in me returnsAs the years have gone by post Playstation 2 era I lost something in me that caused me to not game so much anymore, it may have been that the consoles I owned after the PS2 were a Gamecube and Wii which may not have helped my cause and so after the Wii I became a PC gamer which I did enjoy and can still enjoy if I want to, but the support for the platform and the fun factor is not there like it is on the Xbox 360

But having recently purchased an Xbox 360 I have not even wanted to touch my PC games at all lately, I think the gamer inside me has always fancied console games more even though during my few years as a full on PC gamer I adapted some sort of approach to consoles and thought they were all inferior to my PC which was sort of funny, graphical wise PC will always be superior, one day that may change but it is not the case right now, but it has never been about just graphics for me, I love both modern and retro games, still, so you can guess my take on graphics, but the better graphics is always a bonus and a nice thing to have obviously

I love the support the Xbox 360 has compared to the PC platform which is I am guessing is mainly due to piracy on the PC platform, lately I have been enjoying some good classics as I have been unable to afford any new titles yet apart from a few but lately I have been playing Soul Calibur 4, Forza 3, Lips and more which have all given me a challenge and if not a challenge sure have provided me with hours of funs

Well thats about it then, not sure what else I could add, but I will give you my gamertag on Xbox Live and maybe you can add me! Gamertag is kevcampbell, like my username is at most places across the web, so please add it because one I could do with more friends on there and two, I would like some challenges thrown my way if you would be so kind hahaKevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-89222556341470246272011-07-17T12:05:00.000+01:002011-07-17T12:05:41.298+01:00The complete guide to Google+Google+ is the hot social network on the block. In just three weeks, the competitor to Facebook and Twitter has amassed more than 10 million users, and its users are sharing more than 1 billion pieces of content daily.

Google+ is not the easiest thing to understand though, it has plenty of features that can confuse beginners. Even advanced users can miss a lot of the little gems that define Google+.

That is why we decided to dig into every aspect of Google+, from Hangouts to Circles, from Google+ for businesses to what is next for the new social network. The result is an extensive guide on all of the key features of Google+. There is also an introduction to the service and the important things you need to know about it. We have included commentary, videos, photos and more in our guide. In addition we will update this guide regularly with the newest information on Google+

So here now I present to you the complete guide to Google+ written by MashableKevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-85566041767216547822011-07-15T20:44:00.002+01:002011-07-15T20:46:35.400+01:00Get a Google+ invite right here, or add me to Google PlusGoogle+, Google Plus, G+. Whatever you want to call it is one of the hottest and one of the fastest ever growing social networking websites going today, invites were very rare and difficult to acquire, not so much now, but there are people still out there searching for invites, being people scammed for invites and people asking what the hell Google+ is

In this second paragraph I will cut right to the chase, if you want a Google+ invite, simply just leave an email address for me in the comment field which will be seen to usually within an hour of you posting the comment as I am usually always nearby a computer so the comment you post containing the email address will be sent an invitation and immediately after the comment will be deleted to protect privacy, alternatively you can go through my other websites and email me if you found out how from the other websites, however I will not advertise my email address here

As for adding me to Google+, please do by clicking here

If you are new to Google+ or have never heard of it before I suggest you take a look at this page here to learn more about Google+ or simply by watching the video below, of course all of this will not tell you everything about Google+ but I found the best way to learn was to read that same link, watch that same video, using the actual Google search engine to find out about Google+ and joining the new social networking website I found also helped me a great deal to learn more about how everything worked

So ask for an invite and receive one, I will not scam you and I will not ask for anything in return, I am just inviting those who want to be invited out of decency, if you want to thank me though you can link to this post or my blog as a way of saying thank you, which is also not required

The point of this post and me wanting to invite you to Google+? Well I must admit I am a Google fanboy and user of many Google products, which I would also like to see others using for no specific reason. So get an invite, join me if you will and hopefully be a happy user of Google+ like I can proudly say now after about 3 days of using the service.
But however I do see some posts are very popular and still receiving loads of hits per month, but in the meantime instead of letting this blog go more months without any new posts I figured I would feature some recipes.

These recipes most of the time will not be mine but however they will be edited most of the time and I will always provide the source material, so lets begin

Serves: 2

Ingredients:

Half cup of basmati rice
1 egg
250g rump steak
Small thumb sized piece of ginger
1 clove of garlic
3 spring onions
Half a pack of Blue Dragon Black Bean Stir Fry Sauce
A good lug (or 3 tbsp) of soy sauce
1 lime

Prepare:

1: Measure half a cup of basmati rice to 1 cup or 2 half cups of water and add water and rice to saucepan. Bring rice to boil and transfer saucepan to a very low heat hob (setting number 1 on my electric cooker) and wrap saucepan lid in a kitchen or hand towel and cover the saucepan, what this will do is soak up the moisture from the steam, leave it to cook for about 15 minutes
2: Once rice is cooked remove from the heat and add rice to a sieve and run cold water over it, once rice has been drained add to a bowl and refrigerate
3: Trim away any excess fat and gristle from the steak and cut the steak into strips
4: Peel and finely chop the garlic and ginger
5: Slice the spring onions, and on the chopping board combine with ginger and garlic and continue to slice to remove any big parts of spring onion of ginger
6: combine steak, spring onions, garlic and ginger in a bowl and sprink with a small amount of oil and mix everything together with hands

Cook:

1: Preheat a wok or large frying pan and once very, very hot add some oil (I used olive oil) but you can use whatever you want
2: Be very careful and add the chopped ingredients from the bowl to the pan and keep everything moving quickly to avoid burning and sticking
3: Continue to stir fry until beef is browned/cooked or for about 3 minutes
4: Add in the black bean sauce and give it a stir around
5: Quickly remove from the heat and add in the juice of 1 lime, return to heat quickly and give everything a quick swirl around
6: Transfer everything to a clean bowl
7: Crack in the egg along with some soy sauce (the egg will cook quickly so keep stirring) and once scrambled add in the cold rice, scraping the sides and the bottom as you go
8: Keep stirring until rice is hot
9: Serve between 2 bowls or plates and add the meat with its sauce to the top of the rice

So moving away from the food talk, I set out with the camera attached to the handlebars and eventually I reached Ingrebourne Hill in Rainham which was when I started recording, and from here on the video does the rest of the talking, but I will mention some things, firstly it looks like I am riding as slow as a baby on a bike, but it must be the angle of the camera or something? Next time I will angle the camera differently on the handlebars, and another thing is that there at 3 laps I recorded, but I stopped and started the recordings of each lap and joined all 3 video files, so you may notice some strange changes in the video if you watch it through, oh and lap 3 I started recording late, about 30 seconds into the lap, which was simply because I did not hit the record button properly so it was not recording, but it does not matter, the video is below that I hope you will find of some entertainment or you will enjoy

Of course I stopped recording after the 3rd lap, as all I was going to do now was ride back home, which I could not have done even if I wanted to as the Micro SD run out of space right after I completed the 3rd lap, so that sure was close, looks like I may need to invest in a larger Micro SD Card if I want to record some long journeys or loads more laps over at Ingrebourne Hill. Well if that happens which I guess it will that will come at a later date, for now I hope you enjoyed today's video and I hope you enjoy future videos that I plan on recording for everyone to see.Kevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-68036166786065477862011-05-12T08:36:00.000+01:002011-05-13T21:34:44.943+01:00Cycling, free swimming, what do you do to keep active? As you are visiting this blog I assume most of my visitors are cyclists, but in addition to cycling what other cardio exercises do you do? or what sports do you take part in?

Up until about 3 weeks ago my only keep active sport I took part in was cycling, but 3 weeks ago I started to go swimming because me and Sarah could get into swimming for almost nothing, how you say? well there are lakes that are free and very cold, but of course I am not talking about that kind of swimming, I am talking about the more expensive type, in a public swimming pool. Since I have been buying bottles of Schweppes Abbey Well bottled water we have been going swimming for next to nothing, around £1 for 2 bottles, and that will get 2 of us a free swim, there are terms and conditions, like at some swimming pools you are restricted to certain times, but I am not complaining as we have been having a good time lately and getting much healthier at the same time

So the cardio exercises I take part in, you now know. Cycling which is free and swimming which costs almost nothing, what a result we have there

Let us all know what you have to say, in the comments, and if you never knew about the swimming bottle caps that can get you into swimming for free, there is no better time to start swimming if you have not already.Kevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-84580410702555138142011-05-10T08:55:00.000+01:002011-05-10T08:55:00.269+01:00More VirtualDub tips in relation to MD80 videosYou may have recently read the post in where I wrote a tutorial on how to remove a yellow time and date stamp from videos recorded using an MD80 video recording device, today I am not going into too much detail about things but I will give some tips and quickly explain alternative options on how to remove the time stamp by cropping and will give some other useful advice while I am at it and I hope you find the information useful.

Cropping:

First today we are going to crop a video we have recorded using an MD80 camera, so first of all load up VirtualDub, if you are not sure how please follow the first steps in the previous tutorial about removing a time stamp. So you should now have VirtualDub opened up, now proceed to opening a video file by pressing Ctrl and O on the keyboard and now press Ctrl and F and add a filter, the filter you want to add is the brightness contrast filter, do not make any adjustments unless you want to, but for some reason for me this seems to be the only way to make an option for cropping to appear in the filters. So now once cropping is clickable click that and in X1 and X2 offset you want the number 15 in each and in Y2 offset you want 30. Alternative you can just adjust Y2 offset and leave X1 and X2 offset, but this is the way I do it. Now press OK to return to the main VirtualDub window and you can now proceed to save as AVI as also instructed in the previous tutorial. But wait there is something else, I am not finished yet.

Compressing Video:

Do you hate clicking save as AVI for the simple fact of oh no I am going to end up with another huge file on my computer, well lets solve that together. First I want you to download this Xvid codec named Koepi's Xvid Codec from here. Once you have installed the codec you may need to restart VirtualDub and open the video file again and make those cropping adjustments if you need or want to. Carrying on, now that VirtualDub is opened once again press Ctrl and P on the keyboard and select the Xvid MPEG-4 Codec from the list and click configure, drag the slider between maximum quality and smallest file for whichever you like, you may want to keep all the quality or you may want a tiny file size which will have horrible video quality, I have adjusted it so that it is at a level of 5.00. Once the adjustments are made continue to click OK to return to the main window and click save as AVI. the file should now start saving and you should notice the file size will not be of many many gigabytes.

I know this has only been a quick tutorial for today but I hope you have found it useful, if you have leave a comment letting me know or if not still let me know and I will try to improve it, thanks for readingKevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-25480226466347060362011-05-07T10:21:00.000+01:002011-05-07T10:21:03.884+01:00MD80 camcorder instructions for removal of time stampMD80 as it is best well known is a tiny DV DVR camera that comes with many different names under many different brands and the only difference appears to be the price in many models, I purchased my MD80 for just under £16 which included a free micro SD card and card reader.

These cameras can be used for many things including sports and may also come in handy if you are hoping to be the next James Bond, but you may think what you have recorded have been spoilt by some giant yellow time stamp in the bottom right hand corner of the video, well what I will try to do here is make these instructions very simple so that almost everyone should be able to follow my insutructions and be able to successfully remove that time stamp

Step 1: So here is the first of many steps, just follow each step and skip no steps at all. Firstly you will want to get that video off the Micro SD card so plug the card into a USB card reader and the card should now appear as a removable disk with a capital letter assigned to it. Now you want to open that up and once that is opened you will want to go through some other folders named DCIM and 100MEDIA to find all the video files you have recorded

Step 2: Once you are in the 100MEDIA folder you want to select whatever video file you want and copy and paste it or drag it to a suitable folder or to the desktop

Step 3: You now need an application Called VirtualDub which you can download by clicking here, once you have downloaded VirtualDub extract the contents of the the archive to a suitable folder or you could extract the files to the desktop but it will make the desktop look messy. Now once you have extracted that archive to a suitable location open up the folder named plugins

Step 4: Now you want to download a VirtualDub plugin to put in the plugins folder, so download this plugin named Logoaway and copy it to the plugins folder

Step 5: Now open up VirtualDub by clicking on the VirtualDub icon and not vdub and once it has been opened click on File and after that click on Open video file or press Ctrl and O on the keyboard at the same time. Now you want to browse to where that video file is and open it in VirtualDub

Step 6: Once video file is loaded, in VirtualDub hold down Ctrl and F on the keyboard to open up Filters, once the box pops up click Add and now click Load and now browse to where the plugins folder is located and open logoaway.vdf. Now scroll down the list of filters, click on logoaway v4.01 and now click OK

Step 7: Logoaway configuration should now have loaded so now what you want to do is first click Show preview and click one of the large buttons named XY. and now you want to adjust the values for the logo border positioning and the logo border size, for the logo border position I use 325 for X and 445 for Y and for logo border size I use a width of 370 and a height of 35. Once all those adjustments are made you can adjust the sliders for Blur power and X-Y weight to whatever you think looks best, if you can not decide yourself you could try just having both sliders positioned in the middle. Now all is done and you now want to click OK to close the configuration window and click OK again on the next window

Step 8: Now click File and look for Save as AVI, click that and save the video file. Warning, the file size of the output video will be huge and you will want a video converter to convert the video to a suitable size

Step 9: The following steps are now optional, what you will now want to do is download a video converter, this one right here is free with no catches and is a very useful and simple video converter that I use regularly

Step 10: If you have downloaded Freemake Video Converter and still need help read on. Now what you want to do once the video converter is installed is open it up and simply drag and drop a video file into the main window. Once that is done it is now time to click one of those large buttons at the bottom. For today click on the button named to AVI and now you can select many presets, for today just leave it as DVD Quality and select where to save to and now click on Convert and once conversion is complete we are complete for todays guide on how to remove a time stamp from those videos

Now all you have to do is upload the video to YouTube or do whatever else you want to do with it.

I hope you found this guide useful, I am sure you found moments where it dragged on but my aim was to make a guide everyone could understand and follow and I hope I achieved that today so if I have helped you please let me know and if you want to use this guide on another website please let me know and I will be happy for you to use it if you ask me firstKevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-41650685162133607402011-04-28T13:05:00.000+01:002011-04-28T13:05:30.832+01:00On the bandwagonI am now a member of the bandwagon of the continuously growing helmet camera club. Having received the product today that I had recently purchased for £16.49 from Amazon I was like a child on Christmas morning, saying that though the packaging and contents are still in one piece

The camera I have is a clone of the more expensive Veho Muvi which I may purchase at some point if I get on well with using this clone that I have. So far even though I have not had much chance to use the camera I have recorded some short videos around the household and been playing around with an application called VirtualDub in order to remove that horrible yellow time stamp, there will be a tutorial coming soon that anyone should be able to follow as when I write the tutorial it will be in loads of easy to follow steps

I guess you thought I was not going to mention why I had not written a blog post in just over a month, well truth is there is not much reason as to why but I have seen the blog has still been getting views while I have been away so of course the blog will not be going away and the same applies to me, well if I go away again it will only be temporary, but just for a quick update I have been slightly busy while not writing on the blog, me by myself and also me and Sarah have been going out for the occasional bike ride exploring new places to ride and conquering old places. We are also eating more healthily than ever, although the smoothies have slowed down but we still drink healthily too. There is more to update on but that can be done another day as can some more blog posts like this

For now, bye byeKevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-40401023087641712022011-03-16T09:02:00.001+00:002011-03-19T07:19:51.958+00:00Recipe: FlapjacksFlapjacks are a good treat for on the road and are also delicious if you make them the right way. You can also enjoy many fillings in the flapjack too, enjoy this recipe that can be found below in easy to follow steps, I advise using digital scales if you have them for a more accurate reading, I also advise using proper measuring cups so you get the correct measurements of ingredients, alternative you can search Google for cup to gram conversion charts.

Ingredients:

3 cups of rolled oats (I use Scott's Porage Oats)
Half a cup of demerara sugar
Pinch of salt
4 oz unsalted butter
2 heaped tbsp golden syrup or honey

Method:

Step 1: In a large mixing bowl put in the 3 cups of rolled oats and a pinch of salt
Step 2: In a small saucepan combine the sugar, butter and golden syrup and melt over a medium heat
Step 3: Combine melted ingredients with dry ingredients in the mixing bowl and stir all ingredients together until you have a sticky mixture
Step 4: This step is optional because at this point you have the option whether to add any other ingredients or not, you could add raisins, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds or anything you like
Step 5: Grease a 20cm square baking tray with butter and line with greaseproof paper
Step 6: Pour ingredients into baking tray and compress down with the back of a spoon or a spatula
Step 7: Put in an oven that has been pre heated to 180 degrees Celsius and bake for 12 to 15 minutes
Step 8: Hide them

Quick Review:

A Delicious treat and snack that is not too unhealthy. You can enjoy flapjacks with so many fillings too, my favourite filling is raisins and raisins combined with oats will provide an excellent source of energy, you could also try making these flapjacks with honey instead of golden syrup for an even healthier flapjack recipe. These flapjacks will keep for days if stored right, I always store flapjacks in an airtight container to keep them tasting fresh for daysKevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-22882156728046602142011-03-16T07:21:00.000+00:002011-03-16T07:21:28.903+00:00Video Wednesday: Boris gone crazyVideo Wednesday is back and this weeks entry is a humorous video that should not be taken too seriously. It should hopefully give you some giggles. This video is actually an advertisement for Fresh Max Shirts featuring Boris Johnson (not the real one by the way) testing out the abilities of the Barclays Cycle Hire bikes in a way you would not usually see

The theme was winter where the winning photographs were to capture the beauty of the winter months. The contest was being run by the Junior Rangers Club based at Eastbrookend Country Park in Dagenham. There were three age categories for the competition, one for children aged 12 and under, people aged 13 to 18 and adults aged 19 and over.

Photos had to be taken in one of Barking and Dagenhams parks and must have been submitted by 30th January to qualify for entry into the competition.

Yesterday, the 12th March at 15:30 was the day for the collection of the prizes, where first prize for each category was a large canvas print of the winning photo and prizes for second place were canvas prints again but of a medium size which was what I was awarded.

Over a week ago I had received the email telling me I had came 2nd place in the photo competition and I was very happy and proud of myself and my feelings were the same at the time of collecting and being awarded my prize, although I was slightly nervous when going up to collect my prize from one of the junior rangers, But I am sure some of them they may have been equally as nervous, as well as the other entrants like 1st place winners

An article should be appearing in some local newspapers soon, TheNews and the Barking and Dagenham Post, both of which are very popular newspapers around this local area, so once I have grabbed hold of those newspapers I will be sure to flick through the pages looking for the page that the photo competition winners will be featured on and will also be sure to get the newspapers on here too, well photos of the newspaper that is

My winning photograph can be seen below
Before deciding to go to Tower Gateway Sarah was still very unsure, and at the moment she is on a diet and wants to lose some weight, I advised her that doing this trip would be very beneficial to her goal of losing weight and I also told her she would be fine with me on those mean streets of London, well I am happy to say we did end up going there and coming back in one piece.

Before setting off earlier that morning I had eaten a bowl of porridge with some dried apricots, raisins and golden syrup which had filled me up for a while, Sarah that morning had a bowl of Strawberry oat cereal with a healthy Strawberry probiotic yoghurt mixed in with the oats. Those were our breakfasts that would set up us for the rest of the day, but before we left the house we also had a smoothie each which consisted of all the ingredients found in Smoothie of the day 1 plus one extra orange, and I had 2 tablespoons of Greek yoghurt in my smoothie which had made the smoothie much more creamy, if that is how you like smoothies I recommend you try it. Finally just before leaving we also packed some supplies for on the road which I carried in a backpack, supplies included an apple for each of us, 3 slices of plain Burgen soya and linseed bread, two handfuls of raisins in a sandwich bag, and a handful of apricots too.

It was now time to leave which is what we did and had to ride from near where Dagenham Heathway is to the start point of CS3 at Barking, at which point me and sarah took this photo together and here is another photo we took of the CS3 information point which indicted we would arrive at Tower Gateway in 55 minutes. That was not to happen as we some made some short stops on the route for Sarahs energy levels to get back up, and mine too, so our first stop was Canning Town Recreation Ground which is where we were to sit down for 10 minutes to rest and to eat our apples for an extra energy boost.

It was now not too long before we set off again, once we had rejoined CS3 we were faced with a nightmare, a school kids day out it seemed was taking place as it looked like half of a school had taken to the streets of Canning Town, on the pavement and on CS3 too, well after about a minutes worth of snail pace riding and manoeuvring we had finally passed the kids and the teachers and now we could finally pick up speed again but again it was not too long, about 5 minutes, before we had to slow down again, as there were road works and maintenance taking place around about here which was where we were meant to dismount for a distance of about 100 yards, but that was not to happen, instead we took it easy around the obstacle course that was the maintenance works.

It was an easy route from now on until we got to Tower Gateway which was to be our finishing point, but while we were there, we decided we were not going to head straight back home so we went across the road to the Tower of London, but we only sat down on the steps far away from the tower, but that did not mean we did not get a good view, because we did, so we had a nice view looking at the Tower of London while sitting down on the steps eating our food supplies that we had packed earlier, we also had some tiny friends visit us who we shared some food with

Once we had finished sitting down on the steps for 25 minutes we got back up and headed towards CS3 to make our way home. We found coming back home a much easier journey than going there. I am guessing it was the 25 minute break and buffet of healthy food that helped us get home much quicker, it was just a shame about the maintenance works and dummies standing in the middle of the cycle lane

But eventually we had made it back home in one piece, we were very tired as this was Sarahs first time riding so far, and I had only done CS3 once before which was late last year, but surprisingly once we were back home it seemed that I was slightly more tired than Sarah was, I guess it was a battle of ages, Sarah being 21 and myself being the old dude at 26

Many photos from yesterday can be seen here and below, I hope you enjoyed reading about another one of our journeys
Apricots are just as healthy as those other fruits and in some cases even healthier, apart from the many health benefits of apricots, they are also good as a diet food by providing a large amount of healthy nutrition to the body and at the same time keeping the calorie intake low as apricots are very low in calories, an average apricot contains 16 calories

Many people including myself enjoy dried apricots as they will last longer and can be easily packed away for a handy healthy snack on the go. The dried apricot has even more nutritional benefits compared to fresh apricots and are usually available all year. Getting fresh or dried apricots into your diet plan whether you are on a diet or not will be beneficial to a good healthy lifestyle

Apricots contain many nutrients including vitamins A, C, E, potassium, and iron. You will not find any fat in Apricots and apricots also contain a small amount of carbohydrates. The variety of nutrients found in apricots are also beneficial for good eyesight and apricots can help to prevent heart disease. The healthy fruit is also a good source of fibre. Dried apricots have higher vitamin and mineral values and are also slightly higher in carbohydrates

Apricots are recommended as a good choice in helping you achieve the recommended 5 a day serving of fruit and vegetables, and are also recommended to those who are dieting or those just looking to eat healthy and enjoy the health benefits of apricots

I hope you enjoyed this weeks Food Friday, remember to comment, subscribe and recommend this blog to friendsKevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-86703209129599576752011-03-09T14:17:00.002+00:002011-03-09T20:48:24.675+00:00Smoothie of the day 1Smoothie of the day is another new concept I have come up with, and will also be one that is going to be easier to stick to compared to the likes of Video Wednesday which has only received one blog post but has been going for many weeks now

Smoothies are something I love due to the fact they are easy to make and for what you get after making a smoothie is a powerhouse of vitamins and minerals, combined with the delicious taste of fruit or vegetables that you may like, I usually enjoy a smoothie every other day and most of the time consume my smoothie in the afternoon

Every other day or every other week I will post a smoothie of the day and will label each post with a number too, so that if you like the idea of these posts and want to remember a specific smoothie or are just wondering how many smoothie recipes you can find on the blog, well it should be an easy task by numbering each new blog post

Below will be smoothie of the day number 1 and I will explain in detail what you need and how you should prepare for the smoothie, so please, read on

the smoothie of the day for today is an apple, pear, orange and avocado mixed together using this juicer, obviously you do not need to use that one, and I also used just a basic Tesco Value hand blender, but I am soon looking to purchase a better blender that is not handheld

Ingredient list:

1 Granny Smith apple, halved or quartered
1 Red Delicious apple, halved or quartered
1 Avocado, halved, skin removed and cut into large cubes
1 Williams pear, halved
1 Orange, peel removed and halved or quartered

What to do:

Step 1: Combine all ingredients apart from the avocado into the juicer until all fruit is obliterated
Step 2: With the juice from the fruits in a jug or container, you now want to add the avocado, using a blender or hand blender obliterate the avocado cubes until you have a smooth smoothie
Step 3: Feel refreshed

Quick review:

A surprisingly sweet smoothie that makes you think you are drinking something that is full of nasty ingredients to trick those taste buds, but is in fact the total opposite and is a power house full of vitamins, minerals and healthy fatsKevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-44202484426338354252011-03-05T10:22:00.000+00:002011-03-05T10:22:09.448+00:00UpdatingThought I would update you all and let you all know nothing has happened to me incase you wondering where I had got to

Got some good and bad news that I will share, bad news is, I got my first puncture (not first ever obviously) on the Rockrider by hopping up a kerb and the back wheel slamming down on the edge of the kerb, well punctures are easily fixed right? So that is what I will most likely be doing today along with cleaning my bike and also degreasing and oiling my bike and Sarahs bike

The good news is that I recently placed 2nd in a photography competition that I had entered that was being run by the borough I live in, the theme was winter and once I go to collect my prize on 12th March which is a canvas print of the photo I will go into much more detail

Bye for nowKevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-45036869246926899582011-02-27T08:47:00.000+00:002011-02-27T08:47:44.616+00:00Thumbs up or Thumbs down?Just a quick update here letting you all know that I have added a feature to each blog post that is in a trial right now, I most likely will keep this thumbs up and thumbs down feature, considering it gets used which I hope it does

So go ahead and go through some posts, if you like that blog post, give it a thumbs up, if that post bored you or you thought it was of no relevance to you or the blog give it a thumbs down, simple as that, try it on this blog post, thumbs up if you like this new feature, thumbs down if you do not like itKevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-4060188626983851922011-02-27T08:00:00.000+00:002011-02-27T08:00:36.333+00:00Day for a wet rideYesterday was a day of many discussions and thoughts, Sarah recently has started to want to lose weight, and yesterday I wanted to go out when it was lightly raining, which it was for a short while. There were many places we were deciding between including Hainault forest and riding the CS3 London cycle route from Barking to Tower Gateway, In the end though we decided to go to somewhere different, which was to RSPB Rainham Nature Reserve

As this ride was going to be quite far considering distance and weather, Sarah packed some food including a healthy Cranberry cereal type bar and a pack of 3 biscuit that look like Garibaldi biscuits but are quite healthy, I did not pack any food for the journey which was quite bad of me but before I left I had a massive handful of spinach that I stuffed in my mouth and a handful of raisins that I shoveled down, so we were both running on minimal food supplies apart from my breakfast that morning which was porridge with honey, raisins and a sprinkle of cinnamon, Sarah had not had any breakfast that morning

So to begin we departed from our house to go a near 7 miles to where we was going to which is basically includes just a long stretch of road, so not many turnings were required, as we got closer to the nature reserve we also got closer to Thurrock so our route started to become more industrial, so there were more trucks on the road and loads more traffic from the nearby A13 and more narrow roads which Sarah was not a fan of at all, especially those huge trucks, but what got to us the most was that rain that slowed us down and soaked us at the same time but I read in an article once, if you workout in the winter months you workout more, so you burn more calories and so on, so I had a good mindset going out.

Once at the nature reserve we were only there for about 5 minutes and it was more of a rest for us as Sarah found it very boring and for me I enjoyed the peace and quiet, it was just a shame about the rain, so after 5 minutes of standing around inside the nature reserve we set back off home on the same route we had only just took to get to the nature reserve

Our ride back home was quite easy and compared equally to our ride there, well almost. Once out of the nature reserve we took the same route and headed for home, for most of the journey we were coping quite well, but as we gradually got nearer to home we also gradually started to get worn out and now the endurance factor was kicking in I guess and we both slowly got worn out but we only got severely worn out in the last 10 minutes of riding, once home we breathed a sigh of relief and we were both weak once at home

After being at home for a short while I prepared us both a smoothie with our Cookworks juicer and hand blender. We both had the same smoothie which included one apple each, one pear each, half a mango each and one orange each. Shortly after the smoothie I was still hungry so I snacked on some cheese and chive ALDI oat nibbles, and now it would not be long before I started dinner which was to be a light spaghetti bolognese using turkey mince and wholewheat organic spaghetti, Before our meal though we had forgot the bolognese sauce so we walked to our local shops down the road and bought some light bolognese sauce, after that it was back home to enjoy our dinner

This morning I feel great, I expected to still feel tired but I did accidentally fall asleep very early last night which was a pain, but great in terms of my recovery because today I feel good

Thank you for reading, as always please commentKevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-55029627700452229202011-02-26T08:24:00.001+00:002011-02-26T09:57:56.814+00:00Blog updatesToday I updated the blog header, I think it now properly explains what the blog is about and what content you will find here

There is something else I have been thinking of too which is asking for a banner to be made for the blog, I can obviously make very basic banners, But if anyone out there has any spare time to kill and wants to help the blog, you could try to by making a banner for the blog

I also have some lovely statistics to share with you, but I understand if you ignore this paragraph. I will tell you about the visitor statistics which are quite impressive in a way. In December there were 260 page views, January there was 405, and I know this month is not yet over but in February the blog has received 702 page views. with most of those visitors being from United KingdomKevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-75008727394512381672011-02-25T09:26:00.003+00:002011-02-25T10:42:36.973+00:00Food Friday: Go for raisins, not sport gelsHow much do you spend per month on average on sports gels if anything? well whether you do or not just do not throw away money on expensive sports gels because raisins have the ability of delivering the same energy boost that a sports gel would, and with raisins you get a nutritional advantage over sports gels because raisins provide all those vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. All that and more for loads less money than you would have to fork out for a pack of energy gels. So the verdict is that snacking on a handful of raisins before you go out on that long bike ride provides you with the boost that is guaranteed to help you
But there is something else to remember, the fact that raisins deliver the same performance results for a fraction of the price, so whether you are into biking, running, tennis, football or any other sport, stick with raisins for an economical and nutritious energy boost

Finally how about using raisins as a topping, can you sprinkle sports gels over that nice warm early morning porridge? Not quite, but when you have raisins the possibilities are endless, so the next time you have a bowl of porridge or oat cereal, or on top of anything you fancy, add some delicious raisins for an added boost

Entry to the event will be free and the entrance to Havering Bikewise will be from Airfield Way, Hornchurch

As well as a range of exhibitors with cycles and equipment for sale, there will also be led cycle rides, a stunt show by stunt cyclists the MAD BMX Display Team and a cycle polo tournament. There will also be activities for kids which will include a bungee trampoline, face painting, balloon modelling and a bouncy castle.

This free event aims to encourage more people to cycle and will also be an opportunity for new cyclists to receive advice and assistance on getting started and for the more experienced cyclists, we can take part in virtual races and a cycle polo tournament where a trophy will be awarded to the winning team

Havering was one of 13 London boroughs announced by the Mayor as Biking Boroughs last year. All are tasked with encouraging more residents to cycle, and received funding from TfL to support initiatives aimed at achieving this
The cycle lane, which is meant to be a safe place for a cyclist to ride on, many cyclists though see it in the opposite way

All cyclists have different experience levels and so on, but some new cyclists may be wary to cycle anywhere other than where they think they are meant to be, which is in a cycle lane, the case for the more experienced cyclist is that many cycle lanes pose a hazard and so sometimes they tend not to use them in fear that they could put themselves into arguments and into other conflicts with motorists, who most of the time I imagine believe that if there is a cycle lane available, most cyclists should be in that cycle lane

So why is such a good idea, the cycle lane, actually the source of some safety concerns, and sometimes even a lane that could lead to an injury? Lets have a look at placement of cycle lanes

Some common design faults are that lanes are too long for a cyclists intended journey, often taking less direct routes and adding journey time, cycle lanes sometimes conflict with pedestrian paths, some cycle lanes have sharp turns or bends which forces cyclists to continuously slow down and adjust position. Many lanes are kind of obstructed in a way due to the surfaces which can include broken, bumpy or slippery paint when wet.

More faults with cycle lanes include lanes with varying widths, some just about as wide as a bicycle, some lanes do not contain enough sign posts or they are poorly designed such as signs at junctions, signs sending cyclists in the wrong direction, and signs which cause us cyclists plain confusion and another fault that has to be mentioned is those cycle lanes on some roads that appear to end when the road begins to narrow

With the placement and faults of cycle lanes out of the way I should now mention maintenance on our cycle lanes, or should I mention the lack of it, it can be a serious issue. Cycle lanes which are usually positioned next to the kerb, cycle lanes are usually a place for the collection of loose gravel, uneven drain covers, glass, and worst of all? Potholes, All of the above listed are found in cycle lanes quite regularly, all of which pose a risk to cyclists

The design of some cycle lanes means some cyclists will just refuse to use them most of the time, it appears cycle facilities are not designed with the knowledge that cyclists can travel at fast speeds on roads, Many cycling accidents occur at junctions, and it is believed by many of us cyclists that the poor design of cycle lanes is most the obvious at junctions. Cycle lanes at junctions usually move the cyclist into some positions where the risk of other road users not seeing them or not expecting them to be where they are quite high. Until the number of cyclists increases, some motorists rarely expect to see a cyclist, and those motorists are sometimes just more occupied with other motorists around junctions

Cycle lanes it seems also encourage some cyclists to ride on the inside of traffic, which is a dangerous place to be when you are a cyclist. With cycle lanes some cyclists will think there is a legal obligation that they should be in the cycle lane, well in fact there is no legal obligation for a cyclist to be in a cycle lane, Us cyclists are entitled to use any part of the road that we want to but cyclists who choose to travel outside cycle lanes sometimes come into the wrath of the angry motorist which could be anything ranging from verbal abuse and aggressive to intimidating driving towards you

So to finish off, the unfortunate truth of the cycle lane is that riding on the road, within traffic, outside of the cycle lane seems to be a safer option most of the time, us cyclists would love nothing more than safe and well designed cycle lanes dedicated to us, is it not about time that town and highway planners consult more with all road users. Cycling numbers are increasing so it is now time that cycle lane management has got to be addressed

As always, I would love to see comments and thoughts on this blog postKevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-15284096024629431952011-02-17T13:19:00.000+00:002011-02-17T13:19:22.531+00:00A Trip to the unknown

Yesterday I finally got back on my bike for a proper bike ride, I have had many bike rides recently but these are the kind of rides I class as proper rides, rides that shatter bones as you shoot down hills, pedalling through slush and having full on concentration, that is what I love

The place I went to yesterday is not far from my mums house, that place being Havering Country Park and this time I managed to drag along Sarah with me on a bike ride. So let's begin the story, the day started with both of us drinking a smoothie and me eating half of a malt loaf, Sarah had an apple, pear and mango smoothie and I had an apple, pear, mango, kiwi and spinach smoothie, both of which boosted our energy levels, now it was time to set off towards Romford or Collier Row to be exact? after what must have been about a 35 or 40 minute ride we arrived at my mums which is where Sarah would take her pit stop while I had a banana and set off again towards the park which took me about 10 minutes to reach the entrance of the park, once you first get in there and past the sign it seems boring, but not for long, once you ride through this fence the action packed fun ride begins, some hills were tricky to ride up, not because they were steep but because of the sloppy mud, so I was pedalling fast to get up the hill but was only going at a slow speed which was a challenge and I love myself some challenges

If you see the above right image that is me looking back, so that was the sloppy hill I had to ride up, not steep at all, but was still a challenge because of the mud, while riding through the mud I had lovely sounds to ride to and I also stopped for a moment to breath in that lovely natural scent in the air and to even video record a 1 minute clip of the lovely sounds of nature that I enjoyed listening to, which can be seen and heard below

Once I had stopped recording I moved on and continued to ride around the park and encountered many of these annoying gates, anyone else hate these gates? Well anyway once past those gates I noticed smoke up ahead so went to look and it looked like workers were burning away old wood, I am not sure why as I would have thought parts of trees and whatever else they were burning should just remain in the woods on the ground, but no they were burning it all away and creating a nasty pollution of smoke and I even went to have a closer look at the enemy

Now it was time to move on again, as I was not going to stand there and watch them have fun with fire all day, further into the woods and I came to a part of the woods that seemed to contain more life and green things such as these mushrooms that I decided to eat, of course I am joking, I also loved the view of this long path, look at the size of those trees and I even thought I would get a close up of a tree which you can see below

I had also decided to take myself to the bench for a short while and to pose for the camera which is when I noticed another tree opposite me that was something interesting to see, I wonder who lives in here at night?

After so long of sitting down I decided to move along on so I headed up that path with all the trees which was slightly uphill and after a short while I slowly rode past 2 horse riders and eventually reached the end of the woods it seemed, at which point I turned back and headed along the same kind of path but over to the right some more which is where I got this lovely view and not so lovely fence, slightly further down I stopped to take some photos of this horse and crow and this cool looking tree that had a sign on it saying 'private keep out'. Yet again I moved along and came to this sign which I found confusing because although it points in that direction and says parking, once through the gate there is only some grass and a path which I took a ride around

After a quick ride around that strange part of the country park I decided it was time to head back as I had covered most of the country park, well about 80% of it because there were some turns and paths I did not go down, but now I was heading back, and all of those hills I rode up was finally going to pay off as I would go as fast as I have ever been on the bike it seemed, I could even feel the g-force on the back of my neck while shooting down the very long hill although from that photo it does not look very downhill or long at all, I could have even gone much faster down that hill but as it was muddy and it was my first time over there I was not going to not use the brakes at all, but when I next ride over there I will be sure to go faster down the hill as yesterday it was a very nice experience with that wind blasting me in the face and that evil g-force pulling on my neck

Thank you for reading, I know it has been a while since my last bike journey type of post, I am sure they will be more often as the weather is getting warmer now and the forests and country parks are starting to dry up so I hope to see you back here soon
Kevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-40971505717261922702011-02-14T21:43:00.000+00:002011-02-14T21:43:01.528+00:00Get some juice down you and a review for the Cookworks Signature JuicerRecently after some discussion between myself and Sarah we decided we should be consuming more fruit and vegetables so last week we decided to buy a juicer, at first we looked on Amazon for a juicer but as this was our first juicer we was buying we only wanted a budget juicer which it seemed Amazon did not stock, or they may have but the products may not have had any reviews which are important to me

Next I thought I would go to the website of a retailer I do not like that much, that retailer being Argos, after some searching we came across a juicer made by Cookworks who I understand is an Argos own brand, it seemed that this product had many good reviews and was an ideal price for us at just £19.99 so we reserved it and collected it later that day

I had better mention this now for anyone interested in this product, it seems the product is discontinued due to it being from the old Argos catalogue line, but it looks like there is a new model which is very similar in technical specifications and also in looks and it can be seen here

Continuing with the review of the juicer that I have, after collecting it we headed home and the following day we used it for the first time, and nearly every day we have been using it, mainly in afternoons, I can not remember what juice drinks we have been having but the ingredients list has consisted of many items of fruit and vegetables including kiwis, oranges, apples, avocados, pears, carrots, cucumbers, spinach, mangoes and I am still continuously experimenting with new fruit and vegetables to add to my drinks in future, I even have a nickname for the drinks I make almost daily, which is called my superman juice, should I trademark that? Thought not, but after drinking those juice drinks that the juicer produces I feel more energetic whilst out riding on the bike and generally feel more active and more alive so to me these juice drinks are going to be quite an important part of my life going forward to improve my health, endurance and much more

For anyone wondering what I had today, I did not have every fruit and vegetable listed above, would like to have seen how much I would have been going to the toilet otherwise, every two minutes maybe? But today I had a juice drink consisting of one large orange, two pears, one apple, 2 large carrots and a handful of spinach whilst Sarah had a drink that contained two pears and two apples and a chunk of cucumber, not sure about Sarah but my juice drink sure did improve my energy levels today whilst out on a nice bike ride with Sarah over a local country park, unless the improved energy levels were just my imagination, but I felt great today out on the bike

Now to go into some more detail and review the juicer some more, upon first opening the box you take all the parts of the juicer out of the box, actually lets skip the boring part. Assembling the juicer takes some getting used to, before plugging in the juicer you should play around with assembling the juicer, especially the clamps which I found quite tricky, but after about two minutes of playing around with it all I got used to it and found it quite easy to assemble afterwards and still do right now. loading the fruit and vegetables into the chimney which i imagine is not the right name for it is easy, you just have to make sure you peel the right fruits, like oranges and kiwis and cut some other fruits like apples and carrots so they fit down the chimney, you will also have a very handy accessory which is what you will use to push the fruit down the chimney into the blades to make that wonderful juice

The unit is quite noisy, Tatty our 4 month old kitten runs for her life when you switch it on, some reviews say it is too loud, but I do not think it is that bad, I would say it is as loud as a hair dryer but sounds more like a lawn mower, doubt that helps but at the end of the day the noise will not last long unless you plan on putting loads and loads fruit and vegetables in the juicer, but I would not recommend that as the manual says to only operate it for about a minute or two and leave it rest afterwards, which I can understand

Cleaning the unit seems to be quite an easy task, unless it is just the lovely Sarah that makes it look easy? But that is about all there is to it, I love juice and so should you, the natural juice that is, so go get yourself a juicer and loads of natural tasty fruit and vegetables to start experimenting with and see what you like and see if it improves the health and fitness levels that you may want to improve

Thank you for reading, and happy valentines day, and while on the subject of valentines day, happy valentines day to Sarah who I know will read this, love you Sarah

Again thank you for reading and I hope you will come back soon for more reviews and maybe I will mention some more of my superman juice drinks soonKevin Campbellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09320886516299152465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4040013704895036096.post-29926337845680007192011-02-05T08:21:00.003+00:002011-02-09T08:11:02.511+00:00Video WednesdayAnother new concept to go alongside Food Friday is now something on a totally different topic, Video Wednesday, each wednesday I will select a video of the week that I have found the most interesting, and so on

This week, to start off with is this video, from BBC News that goes into detail about cycling helmet cameras and how useful it is to have one equipped with you whilst out riding, because as many will know some YouTube users are very popular with helmet camera videos including Gaz545 who has a very popular and well done video series called Silly Cyclists, that he publishes regularly, I am sure some of his videos will be selected for Video Wednesday if Video Wednesday keeps going

But today the video I have selected for Video Wednesday is below, and as I said before it is a BBC News video that goes into detail about the benefits of using a helmet camera, the video also contains some graphic material of crashes and extremely close and dangerous encounters, so has this video inspired you to get a helmet camera, or if you already have a helmet camera has this video inspired you to use that helmet camera more and to also be more aware of these very bad drivers?

I hope it has and I hope you enjoyed this blog post today and I hope that you will like this new concept of post, I will soon see if you do from the blog statistics, so thank you for reading and watching and I hope you will come back soon
